Before troubleshooting, save a copy

Keep the current writing window open if you have unsaved or pending changes. Export a copy of important work to a folder you control before clearing browser data, reinstalling, disconnecting a storage provider or deleting an account. Browser drafts live in that browser and can be lost when its storage is cleared.

Find the right copy

Local Markdown folders stay on your device. An online project is stored in your WritingBricks account. Dropbox projects are stored in your own Dropbox. Signing in alone does not copy local writing online. Check which location the project uses and whether the latest changes have finished saving before opening it on another device.

A save failed or two copies conflict

Keep both versions. Export or duplicate the current text before replacing either copy. Compare their contents, preserve the passages you need and then save the resolved version. If a connection is unavailable, keep the tab open and retry after it returns. Do not clear site data to fix a pending save.

Recover an account

Use Forgot your password on the sign-in screen and enter the recovery key saved when you created the account. Recovery supplies a new key and signs out other sessions. Keep the new key in a safe place. There is no password-reset email, and support cannot promise account recovery without the key.

Report a problem

Include your app version, operating system, browser if relevant, the storage location involved, what you expected and the steps that caused the issue. You can add an error message or a screenshot with private information removed.

Do not send your password, recovery key, Dropbox access token or a whole manuscript. No document text is sent automatically by this contact link. If a small sample is needed, we will explain why and you can choose what to share. A minimal sample with invented text is often enough.

Privacy and account deletion

Use account settings to delete an account, or contact the email above for a privacy request. Export online projects first. Account deletion does not erase copies on your own devices or Dropbox. Read the privacy policy and terms of use for the service's data handling and responsibilities.
